Which Qualification Fits Which PSSSB Post?
The biggest difference in this recruitment is that the qualification is not common for all 70 posts.
Driver: Matriculation, a valid licence for light and heavy vehicles, and at least three years of driving experience are required.
Clerk (Legal): A Law degree from a recognised university or institution is required, along with the prescribed competitive and typing tests.
Clerk (Accounts): The Employment Generation, Skill Development & Training department requires graduation with at least one subject among Statistics, Mathematics or Accounts. The Excise & Taxation field-office posts require a Commerce degree.
Clerk (I.T.): The required qualification varies by department. It includes relevant Computer Application, IT, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Computer Technology qualifications. The Civil Aviation post has additional 50% marks and experience conditions for the BCA route.
Translator: Graduation plus the prescribed 120-hour computer course with hands-on experience, or an equivalent DOEACC ‘O’ Level qualification, is required.
Field Artist: Graduation in Music, Drama or Dance from a recognised university is required.
Punjabi language requirement
Candidates should not overlook the common Punjabi-language condition. Under Rule 17 cited in the advertisement, direct appointment requires Matriculation with Punjabi as a compulsory or elective subject, or an equivalent Punjabi-language examination.
The required educational qualifications must generally be completed by the last date for submission of applications, which is 19 October 2026 for this recruitment.
PSSSB Age Limit 2026
The age is calculated as on 1 January 2026.
| Category | Maximum Age |

| SC/BC Punjab residents | 42 years |
| State/Central Government employees | 45 years |
| Punjab PwD candidates | 47 years |
| Widows, divorcees and specified married women | 40 years |
| Punjab Ex-Servicemen | As per applicable rules |
The minimum age for all categories is 18 years. Government employees claiming the applicable relaxation must produce an NOC at counselling.
A Detail Punjab Candidates Should Check Before Applying
Reservation benefits under this advertisement are available only to Punjab residents. The notification also states that candidates must provide a Punjab domicile/residence certificate that is not more than five years old when required for the recruitment.
This is important because the recruitment is conducted for Punjab Government departments, but the reservation provisions have specific Punjab-residency conditions.
Candidates should also select their category and category code carefully. The Board states that the category and category code cannot be changed after submission.

The fee is non-refundable, and the notification states that there is no fee exemption.
PSSSB Selection Process 2026
For Driver, Translator and Field Artist, candidates who successfully apply will be called for an objective-type MCQ written examination. The examination has two parts:
- Part A: Matric-level Punjabi language paper, qualifying in nature.
- Candidates need at least 50% in Part A to qualify.
- Part B: The merit-producing paper.
- Part B carries 1 mark per question, with 1/4 mark deducted for each wrong answer.
- Merit is prepared using Part B marks.
- Candidates are subsequently called for counselling/document verification according to the recruitment process.
For Clerk (Legal), Clerk (Accounts) and Clerk (I.T.), the written examination also contains Part A and Part B. Candidates who meet the written-stage requirements are called for a Punjabi and English typing test at 30 words per minute. The typing test is qualifying in nature, and the common merit list is prepared from Part B written-examination marks among candidates who qualify the typing test.
The Punjabi typing test will be conducted on computer using the Unicode-compliant Raavi font.
The detailed syllabus, examination schedule and admit-card information will be published by PSSSB separately on its website.
CareerAlert24 Insight
This recruitment is less about finding one common eligibility rule and more about matching your qualification to the correct department and post.
For example, a Law graduate can consider the Clerk (Legal) vacancies, while a Commerce graduate may fit the relevant Clerk (Accounts) requirement. IT graduates have several department-specific routes, but the Civil Aviation Clerk (I.T.) post has additional conditions that do not apply identically to every other IT Clerk vacancy. The single Field Artist vacancy also has a very specific Music, Drama or Dance qualification requirement.
Clerk applicants should also treat the typing requirement as a mandatory qualifying stage rather than focusing only on the written examination. The Punjabi typing requirement is particularly important because the Board specifies the Raavi Unicode font.
Important Points Candidates May Miss
- Educational qualification cut-off: Required qualifications must generally be completed by the application deadline, 19 October 2026.
- Punjabi requirement: Matric-level Punjabi or an accepted equivalent Punjabi qualification is required under the cited service rules.
- Clerk typing: Clerk posts require qualifying Punjabi and English typing at 30 words per minute.
- No post-submission correction: Once the application is submitted, changes are not permitted.
- Documents are uploaded with the application: The Board asks candidates to upload the Matric certificate, qualification certificates and other required documents in PDF format.
- Category code matters: The selected category and code cannot subsequently be changed.
- Official updates: Examination dates, admit cards, results and later recruitment notices are to be published on the Board website, so candidates should continue checking it.
